Horror Movie Research Study
What scares you? The good folks over at Horror-Movies.ca might finally be able to tell us, as they were recently contacted by a university researcher conducting a controlled laboratory study on “the fear and disgust of people watching horror movies,” through the use of “electroencephalography, body temperature, cortisol levels before and after the experiment, the heart beats, eyes movement, galvanic skin resistance (GSR)… ” The nature of the e-mail was to inquire into what films would be appropriate for the study, and the reporter posed the question to the readers, who gave a wide range of responses.
Many were expected and not the least bit surprising. The Exorcist and The Thing were popular choices, as were a variety of gore fests such as Cannibal Holocaust and Inside. I was quite happy to see Session 9 make the list several times, as it’s one of the few films to genuinely terrify me and remains one of the most effective and taut psychological thrillers available today.
You know, despite the presence of David Caruso.
With that, I’d like to know what horror film has scared you the most. Leave your answer in the comments and, if you’re so compelled, why it frightens you. I’m genuinely curious to see if people agree with me on this matter.
